Auntie’s House: Black Fo’k - A Juneteenth Kickback (June Recap)
This one was for the culture.
On Juneteenth weekend, Auntie’s House: Black Fo’k – A Juneteenth Kickback brought the block to life with that real-deep-rooted, can’t-be-faked Black joy. We curated a day that felt like Sunday at ya Auntie’s, a HBCU tailgate, and a film school field trip, all rolled into one.
Inside, folks gathered for TV Time with the Black Auteur Film Festival, featuring three powerful screenings that gave space for reflection, laughter, and good ol’ storytelling. The kind that sticks to your ribs.
Meanwhile, the Main Stage gave what it needed to give. DJs EyeQ and ASHMAR kept the dance floor full and the vibes on go all day long. Seriously……they went off.
For the first time ever, we activated Milkman Bar aka Auntie’s Den across the street to keep the vibes flowing. With a record number of tickets, we knew we had to expand the house before folks even arrived. It had more of a kickback feel; intimate, cozy, and just right.
DJ JO and DJ Chellwithme kept the energy smooth and soulful—perfect for a lil’ chair dancing, head nods, and deep grooves. Folks posted up, shopped for records at the adjacent Sunshine Vinyl, and caught a vibe The Concord, a CBD dispensary tucked in the back. The Den gave us a glimpse of what’s possible—vinyl sets, chill sets, and more moments to come.
True to Auntie’s House style, we kept the nostalgia close with Uno, Connect Four, Spades, and coloring pages scattered throughout the space. Moments of play, laughter, and a few “you reneged!” accusations kept the energy light and familiar.
We also tapped into the legacy of the Black family photo with Naya Papaya’s Family Photo Station, capturing folks in their Sunday best—or their festival fly—surrounded by kin, chosen family, and good energy.
This edition of Auntie’s House reminded us that Juneteenth isn’t just about our history—it’s about how we live in that freedom today. Loud. Proud. Together.
To everybody who pulled up, thank you for showing love and moving with intention. We hope you left full—in every way possible. 🖤
Auntie’s House: For the Nurturers (May ‘25 Recap)
This one was for the nurturers. 💐✨
On Mother’s Day, we gathered at Auntie’s House to celebrate the ones who pour into us; our Mamas, Aunties, Uncs, Grandmas, Big Cousins, OGs, Neighbors, and Chosen Family. The ones who hold it down behind the scenes and still manage to show up with love, laughter, and a full plate.
“For the Nurturers” was more than just a theme, it was a thank you. A collective love letter wrapped in music, joy, flowers, and the little things that make people feel seen.
As folks arrived, they were welcomed by the warmth of our sunflower photo wall by Rosie Flora Rentals, a radiant tribute to the light that caregivers bring into our lives. Nearby, our flower bouquet station with Florecita let folks build their own bundle of blooms—some as gifts, some just as reminders that they, too, deserve softness.
We slowed things down with intentional moments: coloring pages, board games, laughter from the kids’ corner, and music that hugged you from the inside out. The whole space felt like that back room at your auntie’s spot—the one where time didn’t matter, and you were free to just be.
We surprised folks with 100+ free cookies from the amazing Crisp N Chew, and partnered with Essence of Indigo for an hour of free massages. Because yes…rest is resistance and our people deserve it.
Of course, no Auntie’s House is complete without a proper soundtrack with our co-founder and resident vibe-setter Lauren Light featuring the soulful sounds of DJ Knstalgia and Kay Cali, who even brought her mama, which was a full-circle moment that had us all in our feels.
We also dropped exclusive WYAT?! merch, and if you know, you know—it flew.
This edition reminded us that care is a full-body experience. It’s hugs and bass lines. It’s flower petals and everlasting moments. It’s playlists and prayers. And on May 11th, we honored that in full.
To everyone who came out: thank you for choosing community. For slowing down. For showing up. We luh y’all. Always.
Auntie’s House: Let the Good Times…..(April ‘25 Recap)
Cousins, let’s talk about what went down this past weekend…..
If you pulled up to Auntie’s House this past Sunday, then you already know April 13th hit different. We turned The Pershing into a Southern sanctuary, full of crawfish, Cousins, and culture you don’t find anywhere else in Austin.
From the jump, it felt like home. This one was a love letter to Louisiana, where flavor, rhythm, and soul ran deep. WYAT?!’s own Lauren Light held it down alongside Louisiana fam New Rouge and Coyo, bringing all the classics that remind us why the boot is a backbone of Southern music.
THEBROSFRESH (hailing from Louisiana as well) made the “living room” their own playground, integrating their urban country vibe, which included Rivian’s R1S as a larger-than-life photo backdrop. We even dropped some exclusive “East Austin” tees and let folks take test drives in Rivians.
At the end of the day, Auntie’s House is bigger than a party. It’s about us. The stories we’re writing together. And trust, we’re still here, still vibin’, and far from done.
Missed this one? No worries. We’ll see you at the next Auntie’s House!
